Vietnamese single cup filter looks like a hat sits on top of the cup. There is a chamber for coffee and room for hot water inside the filter. The advantage of this method is that the filter allows full-flavor and a bit of sediment to pass through, without passing along any taste, unlike a paper filter. The filter also allows hot water to remain in contact with the medium-grind coffee in proper length of time (about 4-5 minutes). The result is a tasty and full-flavored cup of coffee.
Instruction
The whole process takes about eight minutes from beginning to end.
Step 1:
(Optional) Pre-heat the filter and cup with hot water and empty; a lot of heat is lost when dripping.
Step 2:
Put about 1/3 of an inch of sweetened condensed milk in the bottom of a coffee cup. The sweetened condensed milk will get thick if you put it in the refrigerator but still work fine.
Step 3:
Take off the lid and remove the filter's top screen from the filter.
Step 4:
Place three rounded teaspoons of coffee into the filter and tap the chamber a little so it will drain evenly. Put the filter's top screen back in the filter and spin once or twice to even out the coffee.
Step 5:
Place the filter on top of the coffee cup. Pour hot water into the filter until it is about 1/4 full then wait about 30 seconds, the ground coffee will soak up the water and expand.
Step 6:
Fill the chamber with hot water and place the lid on and wait about 4 minutes. The hot water should drip through; lift the cover to check the progress.
Step 7:
When the dripping stops and all the water has passed through the filter, carefully remove the filter and turn the lid upside down, then place the filter on it. The remaining water in the filter will drips in the lid and keep your area clean.
Step 8:
Stir up all the sweetened condensed milk and start to enjoy. You can also put in the cup a few ice cubes or prepare another cup filled with ice and pour your coffee over to have Vietnamese ice coffee. Remember your coffee may also be served black without sweetened-condensed milk.
